Rhodoline® OTE-600 is a unique VOC and APE-free liquid additive that is developed to help open time and wet edge performance in waterborne coatings. It utilizes a “patented hydrophobe technology” that slows latex particle contact during the drying process thereby, delaying initial coalescence.
This product is a sustainable solution that enables formulations of high performing low to VOC-free coatings. It is an excellent alternative to glycols and has longer workability, improved flow, and leveling. It also maintains and improves other paint properties such as improved “brush clogging”. With this additive, sustainable coatings can be designed for Green Seal (GS-11) or EU Ecolabel compliance.
Rhodoline OTE-600 is typically added in the letdown stage of the formulation. It is preferred to add as close as possible to the addition of the binder and then mixed thoroughly. It can also be used in the grind stage of the formulation to replace the wetting agent.
For typical usage levels, it is recommended to start with a 1% addition based on the total formula weight. It is possible to reduce/eliminate surface active agents and solvents such as glycols (intended to extend open time).

Film Appearance & Workable Time
Paints were tinted with colorant of choice. The paint was applied by a roller on a sealed cement substrate. After 10 minutes, the area was re-rolled. The optimized formulation has much more uniform appearance and coverage. Workable time of optimized formulation is longer than the original one.
