SECUROC® are mineral flame retardants. They can be utilized as effective, safe, and economical flame retardants and/or smoke suppressants in various polymers, resins, bitumen, and other application areas.

The flame retardant mechanism of SECUROC® products is based on the so-called “endothermic” or heat sink effect combined with the dilution of the flammable decomposition gasses by inert water vapor. Where possible, the char-forming ability of certain minerals is additionally utilized to enhance the flame retardancy and smoke suppressing activity by a combined, or synergistic, effect.

The working temperature range of  SECUROC® flame retardants is optimally fitted to the decomposition range of the host matrix (polymer, resin, etc.), in order to maximize the flame retardancy. Therefore, various types of Securoc® products are available, to fit the different requirements in various applications.

Securoc® flame retardants are produced in various particle sizes to suit all customer requirements. Both particle size and particle size distribution of the filler control various properties of the filled compounds. The effects on viscosity, rheology, and mechanical properties are, in general, among the best known. In the case of flame retardant fillers, the particle size controls additionally the flame retarding properties as well. The endothermic decomposition of the filler, responsible for the flame retardant effect, is presumably a surface reaction of the “shrinking sphere” type. The decomposition rate of the filler and thus the flame retardant effect is higher with decreasing particle size. Within certain limits, it is, therefore, possible to control the intensity or the duration (in opposite direction) of flame retardant effect by the choice of particle size.
